What are the signs I need a new air conditioner?
Some telltale signs you need a new air conditioner are: water dripping, trouble maintaining temperature, higher-than-usual electric bills, unusual noises, or weak airflow. If you’re noticing any of these issues, give us a call—we’ll evaluate your system and get it running Certified-Certified again!
How long does AC installation take?
We aim to serve you at the highest level. For those without cooling and in need of a new system, we strive for next-day installations. As strategic partners with top manufacturers, we keep equipment stocked in our warehouses — our secret to speed service! Under normal conditions, our team completes a full HVAC replacement in just one crew day, from start to finish, so you’re back to comfort fast.
What efficiency rating should I look for in a new AC unit?
Efficiency is measured by SEER2 rating (Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio). The higher the SEER 2 rating the more efficient your air conditioner. So the higher the rating, the better, right? Well, not always. As you might guess, higher SEER2 rated units cost more money. So there’s a sweet spot of optimal efficiency rating vs. cost for your house and your budget. Call us and we’d be happy to discuss your options so you can get the most efficient HVAC system that makes sense for you.
How often should I have my AC serviced?
We recommend scheduling whole system maintenance twice a year to prepare for seasonal demands. Which is why Blue Ribbon Maintenance members get two tune-up visits a year in addition to other valuable benefits.
What types of AC systems can be installed?
We specialize in residential HVAC replacement, offering a wide range of equipment to meet your needs. We install everything from single-stage split systems to dual-stage units and cutting-edge variable-speed inverters — the most efficient and comfortable residential options available. Beyond that, we provide ductless mini-split systems (single-zone and multi-zone), package units, dehumidifiers, HEPA filtration systems, and much more. Whatever your home requires, we’ve got the expertise to deliver top-tier comfort and performance.
How much does AC replacement cost in Southwest Florida?
$7,500-$19,000+. As you can see from this range, this is a loaded question, but one we’re happy to answer. The cost of a new HVAC system varies based on several factors, like the size of your home and the type of system you choose. At Certified Heating and Cooling, we offer three main options, each with different price ranges, features, and comfort levels. Here’s the breakdown:
$ – Sing-Stage Systems (Basic/Entry-Level)
These systems run at one speed — 100% capacity — designed to handle your peak cooling or heating load (think July to September in Southwest Florida). For the other 9 months, they may over-cool, leading to higher electric bills, short cycling, and humidity issues. They’re the most affordable option.
$$ – Dual-Stage Systems (Mid-Tier)
these units operate at two speeds — low and high — adjusting to demand for about half the year. This means lower utility bills, better humidity control, and improved comfort compared to single-stage models.
$$$ – Fully Variable Inverter Systems (Top-Tier)
Our favorite! These systems adjust from 30% to 100% capacity, matching your home’s needs every day. You’ll get maximum energy efficiency, the lowest humidity, whisper-quiet operations, and unmatched comfort. Many customers (about 45%) even raise their thermostat because it feels so good!
How often should I change my AC filter?
We recommend changing your filters every 3-6 months with standard use. However, if you have pets or – surprising enough – burn candles regularly, you may need filters changed as often as every 1-2 months.
Will you remove and dispose of my old system?
Absolutely! We make sure to remove and dispose of old equipment in harmony with current guidelines and regulations. Removal is included with your new AC installation.
Will my new AC be compatible with my existing thermostat?
In the words of our Magic 8 Ball, all signs point to yes. While not in the case in every situation, very likely your existing thermostat will work with your new AC. However, if you’re interested in upgrading the “brains” of your AC, we’d be happy to show you some thermostat options that’ll keep your home just the perfect temperature.
How long does an air conditioner typically last?
In coastal climates, like ours, 10-12 years is the average life of an air conditioner. Now, “average” means some people get less while others get more. We like it when you get more. And with our Blue Ribbon Maintenance Program, we can help you get better than average life out of your AC.
Do you offer maintenance after installation?
Yes, we certainly do. By joining our Blue Ribbon Club, you’ll get two maintenance visits sa year to keep your new AC clean and in top condition. Making it last a long and happy time. You can check out the perks of joining HERE.
Can I stay home during the AC replacement?
Absolutely! Of course, while we’re replacing your AC, there won’t be any air conditioning running, so it might get a little warm. Some people plan a day out and about, and it’s not uncommon for us to be done at the end of the day, just when they’re getting back.
What size air conditioner do I need for my home?
The answer to this question is beyond the scope of an FAQ. Getting the proper answer requires some technical calculations that are best performed by a professional. Why? Because sizing your air conditioner correctly is a crucial part of a proper install. A unit that’s too small OR too big will lead to home cooling headaches and issues.
However, if you’re thinking about a new AC, give us a call. We do these kinds of calculations every day, and we know how to size an AC exactly right for your home.
Do I need to upgrade my electrical panel for a new AC?
Good question! Likely, you won’t need to since new air conditioners generally use less power than old ones. However, if the wiring in your house is older or in poor condition, some new electrical components could be needed to meet building codes and safety standards.
Do I need a permit to replace my AC system?
Yes, a building permit is generally required too replace your AC system. But fear not, as a fully licensed HVAC contractor, we take care of obtaining the necessary permits to do the work. So all you have to worry about is enjoying a fresh new AC system that keeps your home cool and comfortable.
What brand of AC do you install?
We install a few different brands like American Standard, RunTru, and Mitsubishi . However, we do repair work on all brands of AC systems and Mini-Splits. Which makes us one of the most versatile HVAC companies in the greater Fort Myers area. Ready to help you at a moment’s notice.
Do I need new ductwork for a new AC system?
Every home is unique, and ductwork varies. At Certified Heating and Cooling, we always inspect your ductwork before installing a new HVAC system — it’s the “lungs” of your setup! If it’s poorly sized or in bad shape, even the best system won’t perform well. While some homes have inaccessible ducts, we’ll evaluate what’s possible and recommend solutions to ensure your new HVAC runs efficiently, tailored to your home’s needs.

- Schedule routine maintenance every 6 months.
- Change filters regularly to ensure good airflow

What should I look for in an AC replacement contractor?
Four things to look for:
- Your AC contractor should be licensed and fully insured. A good contractor will have more than just an HVAC license, but also an electrical license, so they can handle all aspects of the installation from start to finish.
- They should have an excellent reputation and reviews. Take the time to do your digging. Most reviews should be positive. However, no one is perfect, so when they make a mistake, do they go out of their way to make it right?
- Detailed pricing and estimates. If they won’t give you a straightforward estimate, then look elsewhere.
- Service and guarantees. A great contractor will stand behind their work, guaranteeing not just parts but also the labor. This protects you from sloppy installs that can lead to costly repairs later.
Why is my AC making loud noises?
If your AC is making loud noises, that’s a bad sign that something is either too loose, too tight, failing, falling apart, leaking, sparking, or all of the above. Give us a call right away. We never charge extra for after-hours or emergency service calls. So you can rest easy while we get your AC back to the proper amount of noises.
Can I schedule my installation around my work schedule?
We’re here to serve, so we’d be happy to schedule your installation around your work schedule or whenever is convenient for you.
Why is my AC blowing warm air?
If it’s winter and cold outside, that’s a good thing! But if you’re asking, then it probably means it’s hot outside and you’d like your AC to be blowing cold, but it isn’t. There are a handful of common culprits, like low refrigerant (caused by a leak somewhere), dirty coils not allowing enough air through, or a bad capacitor.
And if we could reach through the internet and test those things, we absolutely would. But we can’t. So give us a call, and we’ll come in person and figure it out for you. You’ll be back to cool quick. Certified-Certified style.
Why is my energy bill so high in the summer?
There are a few external and internal factors that could be contributing. External factors are out of your control. For example, hotter temperatures outside, longer daylight hours in the summer, and the price the electric company chooses to charge for power.
Internal factors that can lead to high energy bills are things like the following. A thermostat set to a very low temperature will require more power. Dirty condenser and evaporator coils can lead to more power draw. And dirty or clogged air filters will make your blower motor work harder. Fortunately, these are things you can change or fix. Which means if your high energy bill is due to one of these, there are steps you can take to remedy it.
Should I cover my outdoor air conditioner in the winter?
The short answer is no. The outdoor part of your air conditioner was made to be outside. Covering it will trap moisture, which can lead to a whole host of problems. So let it breathe. It’s happiest uncovered.
