What Are HVAC Coils, Anyway?
Inside every hardworking AC system, you got two coils doing the heavy lifting: the evaporator coil and the condenser coil. One lives inside (usually in the air handler), and the other lives outside in the condenser unit.
The evaporator coil cools the warm air from your home by absorbing heat. The condenser coil releases that heat outside. It’s like a hot potato game, but with refrigerant. And if either of these coils gets gunked up? Well, the cooling don’t cool.
Why Coils Need to Be Clean
Dirt, dust, pet hair, pollen—all that jazz clings to your coils over time. And when coils get dirty, they can’t absorb or release heat efficiently. That means your system works harder, runs longer, and cools less.
Down here in Fort Myers and the rest of Southwest Florida, we run our systems almost year-round. So those coils? They get filthy faster than you can say “humidity.”
Dirty Coils = Big Problems
A clogged coil leads to:
- Higher electric bills (ouch!)
- Shorter equipment lifespan
- Poor airflow and cooling
- Increased risk of breakdowns
It also makes your unit freeze up, literally. Ice on your coils is a sure sign something ain’t right.

Now About That Drain Pan…
Below your evaporator coil is a humble little tray called the condensate drain pan. When your AC cools the air, it pulls moisture out. That moisture drips down into the drain pan and out through the drain line.
But if the pan gets clogged or full of gunk? Say hello to water damage. We’ve seen ceilings collapse in Naples and microbial growth parties in Cape Coral thanks to a blocked drain pan. Nobody wants an indoor swamp.
Why Cleaning Is Part of Every Certified Maintenance
During a Certified Heating and Cooling maintenance visit, we clean the coils and inspect that drain pan. We do it because:
- Clean coils = maximum efficiency
- A clear pan = no leaks, no microbial growth, no mess
- Preventative care = fewer surprises and emergency calls
We don’t just eyeball it either. We take pictures of what we’re fixing so you can see what was cleaned, replaced, or repaired. We walk you through the whole job so you know what we did and why.
Certified-Certified Peace of Mind
Whether you’re in Estero, Naples, or out by the river in Fort Myers, cleaning your coils and drain pan isn’t just “extra.” It’s the core of keeping your AC blowing cold and staying strong.
So next time you schedule maintenance, make sure it’s with someone who cleans your coils, clears your pan, and cares enough to explain it. At Certified Heating and Cooling, we believe when the cooling don’t cool, you deserve better. And better starts with clean coils.
Call us today and keep your system Certified-Certified. Because We Don’t Hate You.
